SINGING SALON
Singing Salon is for classically trained, operatic soloists who, whilst having their own teachers, wish to develop their musical, dramatic and performance skills under the tutelage of mezzo-soprano, Pippa Dames-Longworth and her colleagues. For able and experienced amateur singers and would be professional singers, this is an opportunity to be cast in ensembles, often operatic, but also from the worlds of song and oratorio, that both suit the individual singer and give them the chance to sing some of the greatest ensembles in the repertoire. We work diligently and with care but also have great fun. The nine Singing Salon Saturdays also lead to a performance or two throughout the year. Pippa intends that Singing Salon works in a generous and supportive atmosphere, in which each singer is equally valued.
Future News
We have some exciting events coming up in Spring 2024 that are as yet under wraps. We are though still enjoying the memories of 'Midsummer Magic' for 'The Villages Music Festival' in Chalvington this July - a performance devised by Pippa and accompanied by Nicholas Bosworth, in which the audience follow the action throughout the gorgeous gardens of Limekiln Farm.
We made an extra performances for children in the afternoon and the sun shone for the evening performance, which was fun, magical and a great success.

When Hansel and Gretel are thrown out into the forest by their exasperated mother to look for strawberries, they find that the forest is full of new friends, including Little Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk and a Witch...or two! We meet the Sandman, ’Night’ herself and even Shakespeare’s Falstaff! With music such as the exquisite ‘Evening Prayer’ from Humperdinck’s ‘Hansel and Gretel, the playful and tuneful ‘Into the Woods’ from Stephen Sondheim’s famous musical, the gloriously beautiful and atmospheric music of Henry Purcell’s ‘Fairy Queen’ and the fabulous melodies and wit of Verdi’s ‘Falstaff’, it was lovely to perform.
In December 2020, Singing Salon completed an online 40 min production - 'FIGARO AT A DISTANCE' - conceived and edited by the wonderful director, Ian Rutherford and since then we have explored Handel ensembles, Kurt Weill, Oratorio, Schubert and Schumann song cycles and a wide range of duets, trios and arias.
